2024 World Dog Surfing Championships Summary & Results

Thousands of dog lovers and surf enthusiasts gathered at Linda Mar Beach near San Francisco on August 3 for the 2024 World Dog Surfing Championships. This unique annual event, which has been a favorite in the Bay Area since it started in 2016, saw dogs from around the world showing off their surfing skills.

The star of the show was Cacau, a chocolate Labrador from Brazil. Along with her owner Ivan Moreira, Cacau clinched the title of Top Dog Overall Surfing Champion. She earned medals in the extra-large dog category, stand-up paddleboarding, and the human-and-dog tandem event.

Each dog had its own style—some stood on all fours, while others preferred to sit or lie down on their boards.

Judges scored the dogs based on the length of their rides, their technique, how confident they looked, and the size or intensity of the waves they surfed.

Dogs of all sizes hit the waves, competing in solo dog surfing, tandem surfing with their owners, and stand-up paddleboarding.

But the event wasn’t just about fun; it also had a charitable angle. Each dog was sponsored to compete on behalf of various causes, helping to raise money for charities around the world.

The competition was divided into categories based on the size of the dogs, with separate heats for small, medium, large, and extra-large dogs.

The 2024 World Dog Surfing Championships was a successful event, bringing together the community for a day of fun, competition, and charity, all centered around the love of dogs and surfing. Here are the official results
