Philadelphia Eagles Partner with Local Shelters to Cover Adoption Fees
The Philadelphia Eagles are making a positive impact off the field with their “Dawg Mentality” by partnering with local animal shelters to waive adoption fees for pets in need of loving homes.
This initiative will run through the remainder of the 2024 season and aims to increase awareness about shelter adoption while making it easier for families to bring home a pet.
The Eagles are covering 100% of adoption fees for pets at three local shelters:
Providence Animal Center in Media, PA
Street Tails Animal Rescue in Philadelphia’s Northern Liberties neighborhood
Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center in Blackwood, NJ
Adoption fees typically range from $100 to $500, which can be a challenge for some families. By waiving these fees, the Eagles hope to remove one of the biggest barriers to adoption and encourage more people to give shelter pets the forever homes they deserve.
Why Waive Adoption Fees?
While adoption fees are crucial for helping shelters cover costs, they can sometimes discourage potential adopters. Removing those fees has several benefits:
Boosting adoption rates: More families are likely to adopt when the upfront cost is eliminated.
Easing shelter overcrowding: With more pets finding homes, shelters can make room for other animals in need.
Encouraging responsible adoption: Shelters still screen adopters to ensure pets are placed in loving, suitable homes.
Jo-Ann Zoll, CEO of Providence Animal Center, emphasized the program’s impact:
“This program doesn’t just save individual animals—it changes lives. Every adoption opens up space for another animal in need, and this partnership with the Eagles makes that possible.”
The Eagles aren’t just funding this initiative—they’re actively involved. Players like A.J. Brown, Brandon Graham, and Cooper DeJean have visited Providence Animal Center to meet adoptable pets and promote the program on social media. Their support has brought much-needed attention to the incredible animals waiting for homes and inspired fans to adopt.
How to Adopt
If you’re ready to welcome a pet into your home, here’s what to do:
Visit a participating shelter: Check out the available pets at Providence Animal Center, Street Tails Animal Rescue, or Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center.
Complete the adoption process: Each shelter has its own application and screening process to ensure the right match.
Take home your new best friend: With fees waived, you can focus on getting the essentials, like food, toys, and vet care.
Shelters across the U.S. are facing overcrowding as adoptions slow and owner surrenders rise. According to the ASPCA, around 6.3 million pets enter shelters every year, but only 3.1 million are adopted. Programs like this one help tip the scales by making adoption more accessible and shining a light on the importance of choosing adoption over shopping for pets.
Whether you’re a diehard Eagles fan or just someone looking to make a difference, this program is a win-win. You’ll be giving a shelter pet a loving home while supporting an initiative that embodies the spirit of community.
