Volunteer Pilot Tragically Loses Life While Rescuing Animals
The animal welfare community is mourning the loss of Seuk Kim, a dedicated volunteer pilot who died in a plane crash while transporting rescue dogs to safety. The crash, which occurred in the Catskill Mountains of New York, also claimed the life of one of the three dogs on board. Two other dogs survived and are receiving veterinary care.
The Crash and Its Aftermath
Kim, 49, of Springfield, Virginia, was flying a Mooney M20J from Maryland to Albany when the plane crashed in a remote area near Windham, New York, around 6:10 p.m. on Sunday. Local authorities and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the crash site was discovered in Catskill State Park the following day.
Tragically, Kim and one of the dogs died at the scene. A lab mix puppy was found alive but severely injured, suffering from two broken legs. The third dog was later located with minor injuries. Both surviving dogs were transported by local animal rescue groups for medical treatment.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the incident, with further updates pending.
A Life Dedicated to Rescuing Animals
Kim’s commitment to animal welfare was evident in his volunteer work, frequently transporting animals to shelters where they could receive care and find forever homes. His wife, Anna Kang, shared her heartbreak on social media, describing Kim as her "soulmate" and "father of [her] children."
"He gained his angel wings doing what he loved," Kang wrote, expressing gratitude for his life of service and his "bright personality."
