World’s Tallest and Smallest Dogs Meet for the First Time in Idaho
It was a meeting of extremes when Reginald, the world’s tallest living dog, met Pearl, the smallest, during a special playdate arranged by Guinness World Records.
Reginald, a 7-year-old Great Dane from Idaho Falls, stands at an impressive 3 feet 3 inches tall. Pearl, a 4-year-old Chihuahua from Orlando, Florida, measures just 3.59 inches in height. Despite the nearly 3-foot difference between them, the two dogs quickly warmed up to each other—sniffing, playing, and exploring the farm together.
Both dogs are official Guinness World Record holders. Pearl comes from a line of record-breaking Chihuahuas—her late aunt, Milly, held the title of the world’s smallest dog before Pearl took the crown. At birth, both Pearl and Milly weighed just 1 ounce.
“I never expected to hold the record again,” said Pearl’s owner, Vanesa Semler. “It’s unbelievable, but it’s an honor.”
Reginald, also known as Reggie, was unusually tall even as a puppy. According to his owner, Sam Johnson Reiss, Reggie stood taller than fully grown Great Danes by the time he was nine months old.
Although Semler was initially concerned about introducing such a small dog to such a large one, she was pleasantly surprised by Reggie’s calm and kind nature.
“He’s like Pearl in a bigger size,” she said. “So gentle and friendly.”
Reiss noted that while Reggie tends to prefer people over dogs, he handled Pearl’s presence with caution and care. “He was very aware of her size and careful not to step on her. It was sweet to watch.”
Over the course of the two-day meet-up on Reggie’s Idaho farm, the dogs bonded, with only a little bit of playful jealousy over toys and beds. “I think she found a good friend,” Semler said.
Pearl, who is known for her diva-like tendencies—including choosing her outfits by placing her paw on selected clothes—seemed to enjoy the spotlight. “She’s always been our diva,” said Semler. “Now she’s a diva for everyone.”
But Pearl isn’t the only one with star power. Reggie, who recently launched his own Instagram account, is no stranger to attention either. “He’s a bit high-maintenance,” Reiss joked. “He definitely has his own diva moments.”
Despite their differences in size, Pearl and Reggie showed that the best friendships can come in all shapes—and heights.
