Seattle Humane Rescues 60 Cats and Dogs Displaced by California Wildfires: How You Can Help

Sixty cats and dogs from Los Angeles shelters have safely arrived in Seattle thanks to the collaborative efforts of Seattle Humane, Wings of Rescue, and Paws 4 Life K9 Rescue. These animals were rescued from the devastating wildfires currently affecting Southern California, where shelters have been overwhelmed by the growing number of displaced pets. The flight bringing these animals to Seattle is part of a larger initiative to help pets in crisis, ensuring they receive the care and safety they need while also easing the strain on overcrowded shelters.

Supporting Overcrowded Shelters in Los Angeles

With the ongoing wildfires in California, many shelters in the Los Angeles area have been struggling to accommodate the large number of pets who have been displaced from their homes. The rescue flight is designed to alleviate some of this pressure by transporting animals to Seattle, where there are more available resources for them. Seattle Humane’s PR and Social Media Specialist, Brandon Macz, explained that this effort helps free up space in LA shelters, enabling them to take in more animals directly affected by the fires. These animals are now on their way to a safer environment where they can start their recovery.

Upon arrival in Seattle, the animals will undergo thorough health checkups to ensure they are in good condition for adoption. The rescued cats and dogs are expected to be available for adoption starting Tuesday, January 14, 2025. Seattle Humane has made it easier for potential adopters to find these pets by marking their profiles on the adoption page with special identifiers to show they were part of the rescue mission.
